Hi everyone
I wanted to write this post because adoption and rescue often get overlooked when people talk about tropical parrots. Everyone loves the bright colors and talking abilities, but not many realize the deep emotional responsibility that comes with these incredible birds.
When I adopted my first tropical parrot, he was shy, scared, and plucked most of his feathers. I remember just sitting by his cage every evening, softly talking so he’d get used to my voice. Weeks later, he finally stepped onto my hand — and that tiny act of trust felt like winning a gold medal.
These parrots are highly intelligent and emotional. Many come from homes where they were misunderstood, left alone for too long, or given up because they were “too loud.” But given time, patience, and love, they transform completely — they sing, play, and bond again.
If you’re thinking of adopting, please do it with a long-term heart. They can live 40–60 years and will depend on you for everything. But in return, they’ll give you a friendship you’ll never forget.
Has anyone else here adopted or rescued a tropical parrot? What was your experience like? I’d love to hear your stories.
