Tropical Parrot GPO Aviary Setup – Building the Perfect Shared Environment

Hey tropical parrot keepers 👋

Let’s talk about something I think many of us are always tweaking — the perfect GPO aviary setup! Whether you have Macaws, Amazons, Lorikeets, or Conures, managing multiple tropical parrots under one roof (or roofed cage!) can be a challenge.

Over the years, I’ve learned a few key things:
  • Space matters: Horizontal space is just as important as height — parrots need to fly side-to-side.
  • Zones work best: Separate feeding, bathing, and rest areas help reduce territorial fights.
  • Enrichment is everything: Swings, ropes, and fresh branches keep them active and reduce feather plucking.
  • Social balance: Keep watch for bullying — sometimes pairing certain species can cause stress.
I also installed a misting system for humidity and natural perches for comfort — it’s made a huge difference in feather condition and behavior.

But I’m curious — how do you all manage your multi-parrot setups? Do you have species that get along surprisingly well? Or a “troublemaker” who wants to rule the roost? 😄
Let’s share tips, photos, and experiences — could be super helpful for new GPO aviary owners!
