What do you all feed your African Grey daily? Trying to build a healthier routine

Hi everyone,
I’m pretty new to this forum but I’ve had my African Grey for a while now and I’m really trying to improve his daily diet.

Right now, I give him a mix of pellets, fresh fruits, and some veggies, but I always feel like I could be doing better. I’ve read so many different things online that it gets confusing — some people say more fresh food is best, others say pellets should be the main diet.

Currently, his food routine looks like this:

In the morning I give pellets with a small mix of chopped fruits like apple, banana, and sometimes pomegranate.
In the afternoon, I try adding veggies like carrots, broccoli, sweet potato, or spinach.
Sometimes I also add a few almonds or walnuts as treats, but I try not to overdo the nuts because of the fat.

I’m really curious to know what a healthy “daily menu” looks like for your African Greys.

Do you give more fresh food or more pellets?
Do you cook veggies or give them raw?
And are there any superfoods that you noticed really help with feathers and energy?

Would love to hear your routines and any tips you’ve learned over time. Thanks

It actually sounds like you’re doing a great job already. A balanced mix of quality pellets as the base and fresh fruits/veggies like you’re giving is usually ideal. Most people aim for pellets to be the main part of the diet, with fresh foods added daily.

Raw veggies are generally great, but lightly steaming tougher ones like sweet potato or carrots can help with nutrient absorption. For feathers and energy, foods like cooked quinoa, a little chia/flax seed, and dark leafy greens can really help.

I am giving you some helpful links, please read them if you haven't yet and I am sure they will be helpful to you and other users.
