Hey everyone!
I’ve kept Red-Rumped Parrots for several years now, and I wanted to share a few care tips for anyone thinking of bringing one home. They’re amazing little birds, but like all parrots, they thrive best when their basic needs are met properly.
Diet:
Give them a balanced diet — a good quality parakeet or small parrot seed mix, fresh veggies (spinach, carrots, corn, peas), and some pellets for nutrition. Avoid feeding only seeds, as that can cause obesity and vitamin deficiencies. They love apple slices and broccoli florets as treats.

Cage Setup:
A wide cage (not tall) works best, since Red Rumps are ground foragers and like flying horizontally. Add a few perches of different thicknesses and some natural branches for chewing. Keep toys simple — swings, ropes, and bells are great.
Personality:
They’re sweet but independent. Mine likes being around me but isn’t overly clingy. They’ll bond well with gentle handling and daily interaction but don’t usually enjoy too much cuddling.
Give them sunlight, a healthy diet, and gentle company — and you’ll have a happy, glowing Red Rump who’ll brighten every morning with soft chirps and curiosity.
