How I’m trying to potty train my African grey

Hi grey owners!

Just wanted to share how I’ve been trying (and sometimes failing 😅) to potty train my African Grey — maybe it helps someone else, or you can share what worked for you!
So basically, I’ve been using a simple routine: every time he wakes up, eats, or gets excited, I gently move him to a perch or designated “spot” and say the same cue word, like “go potty.” When he actually does it there, I praise him right away and give him a small treat or lots of excitement. If he goes somewhere else, I just ignore it,,,, no scolding.
It’s been a slow process, but he’s starting to understand the cue, especially after naps or meals. I’ve learned consistency is everything — and patience, lots of patience. 😂Has anyone here successfully potty trained their African Grey? Any tips to make the process smoother?

This is awesome! Honestly, the fact that you’ve gotten your Grey to even consider a potty spot deserves an award :)
They’re so smart but love doing things on their own terms. Sounds like you’ve got the right mix of patience and positive reinforcement, keep it up! I’m sure before long he’ll be showing off his new “skill” just to make you proud.
