Hey everyone!
So, it’s pumpkin season again — and while I was scooping out a pumpkin for decoration (and fighting off the urge to bake everything in sight), my parrot was giving me that look.
You know the one — head tilted, eyes pinned, feathers puffed up like, “Are you gonna share that, or...?”
That got me wondering: Can parrots actually eat pumpkin seeds?
The short answer — yes, they can!
Pumpkin seeds (also called pepitas) are packed with protein, zinc, magnesium, and healthy fats, which are great for feather health and overall nutrition. Most parrots love the crunch, and if you roast them lightly (no salt, no oil), they make a healthy occasional treat.
Just make sure they’re unsalted, unseasoned, and clean — no spicy pumpkin pie leftovers, please.
Some people even offer raw pumpkin seeds right after cleaning out a pumpkin — just rinse and dry them first.
A few things to keep in mind:

So I’m curious — does your parrot eat pumpkin seeds?
Do you give them raw, roasted, or mixed in with other treats?
Let’s share what’s worked (and what hasn’t) for your feathered food critics below!

A few things to keep in mind:
- Don’t overdo it — too many seeds = too much fat.
- Mix them with regular pellets, fruits, and veggies to keep a balanced diet.
- Watch your bird’s reaction the first time — just like humans, every parrot has its own “taste drama.”
