We bought Ruby a plastic bath tub and attached it to the side of her cage. We removed a door so she can go in when she wants and put maybe a half inch of water in. Our rationale for this was that, often after she takes a regular shower with me, she will then inexplicably want to take a second "shower" in her water bowl when she goes back in her cage. It's almost like the first shower is a warm-up act and now she's ready to take the bull by the horns. Why she couldn't just do this from the beginning is one of those unknown AG mysteries. Anyway this makes a tremendous mess and she starts flapping around like crazy so we thought this would give her more room, be safer, cleaner water, etc. and maybe encourage her to take showers by herself.
Well the end result (so far) is that she does like to go into the tub. At least she likes to stick her head in. But she doesn't go in the water - she just starts talking and whistling like crazy. Because the tub is enclosed it creates an echo chamber and she seems to really like the acoustics.
Oh well! Maybe eventually she'll like the water too but I have my doubts.
Maui was that same way, where she would shower with me, then splash around a ton in her water bowl. I put a large dog water dish on the bottom of her cage and put about 1.5" of warm water. She loves it though. She stays there for 30 minutes. It still makes a huge mess in her cage.
Manzi loves the echo sound that you're describing with Ruby. He often puts his head in his feed dish, and will start talking. It is pretty cute!!
That sounds like a great thing. I used to have a bath like that for our cockatiel. I didn't know they came larger for greys. I will have to look for one. Chy likes to dive into her water bowl and make a big mess. A bath would be better.

Ruby still won't bathe in her bathtub and now doesn't go in and talk as much. However she has managed to imitate the sound of her own voice and what it sounds like when she is IN the bathtub. I hear her talking with the 'echo' sound and assume she's in her bathtub but she's not!
