I have seen quite a few items on the news about animals visiting care home because it gives the residents an enjoyable experience, reduces stress and can help people with dementia. As well as the more usual dogs I have seen horses and alpacas going in but the funniest were a pair of Humboldt penguins called Charlie and Pringle. They went in the lift, waddled out and into the room, where residents could stroke them and feed them. Their visit was a surprise treat for a 92 year old animal lover called Annie who is a lifelong fan of penguins. She had made a wish to see the penguins on the care home's wishing tree and her wish was fulfilled.
Somewhere in another universe, dear brother, you got saved.
My 86 year old mother was recently moved into an adult foster care facility. I bring Sheeba every few weeks. Since she doesn't fly, she's able to be out and say hello, whistle, etc. It's a nice distraction for the old folks, there is one lady who is about 100 and doesn't talk anymore but when she saw Sheeba she was all smiles!
