Do any parrots here have more than one place where they might sleep from one night to the next? Jax has always slept in his cage, which is in the Family room, the most active room in the house. The cage door is always open, and I've built "balconies" all around the outside of the cage, but every night Jax chooses to go into his cage to the same spot to sleep.
We have a second large open jungle gym type station in my computer/music room, and he hangs out there whenever I'm in that room. During the day, he flies between the two locations at will, and probably splits his time 50/50. But we've always taken him to his cage once it was night time, if he wasn't already there.
For many years we did not cover the cage, but we do now. Once Jax goes into the cage, we cover all but the door. However, there are often evenings I watch TV in that room until 11 or 12pm. I've often wondered how much the TV sound and whatever light bleeds through the cover into the cage disturb's Jax.
It's often quieter and darker at the music room station much earlier in the evening, but we have no way of covering that station, and as I mentioned, Jax seems to prefer the security of being inside his cage when he sleeps. Still, I wonder if it might be better to let him sleep at the 2nd location if I'm going to be watching TV into the wee hours.
So that's my dilemma. I just don't know if it would be good to have him sleeping in different places on a random basis depending on where I plan to hang out, thereby giving him the most quiet time possible. Or if it's better to always sleep him in the same place, despite my late night TV habits. I'm also concerned about how he might feel sleeping at the open gym with no cage and no cover.
