Hello. Im new here and to African Greys. I have always been drawn to these birds but wanted to wait until my children were older so I could properly care for it. With 2 children now adults and my youngest being 16, I think I am finally ready. I have discussed it with all of them and they understand that the bird will need a home after my husband and I have passed and they're perfectly fine with that My plan is to get the bird while they're still living at home so they have a proper understanding of what the birds needs and what to expect.
I have been reading books and browsing the internet for information so I can be as prepared as possible. I was wondering if anyone would share their wisdom of things they wish they knew when they got their first Grey.
When I was thinking of getting my first grey, I did like you and did my research. I also read Sophia's blog about her bird, Dandy.
My first grey was only 4 weeks old when I first met him at the breeder. It was love at first sight. My husband and I visited him every weekend until he was ready to come home. That gave us time to bond with him.
Because of the research, there were no surprises. We knew what we were getting and what to expect.
If you have any questions, we are here to help.
