I am seriously at my wits end! My two greys and two rose breasted cockatoos waste so much food, they act like they are starving so I empty their bowls give a new bowl full and they just start raking it out of the bowl, or they dump their bowls. What kinds of feeders help with this?
Throwing food out of their bowls is quite common, sometimes they see it as a game. I think yours have learnt that if they throw it out they will just get more. With mine I don't put too much food in their bowls and because of the design of the cage the bowls can't be removed from the inside. You can get bowls which bolt onto the cage, and there are members who use heavy ceramic bowls.
Somewhere in another universe, dear brother, you got saved.
When Sheeba adopted me a few years ago, she would push the lightweight metal food and water dishes out, dumping everything. I went to using heavy ceramic dog food dishes and she was fine. Up until a few weeks ago when she started flinging the food out as fast as I can replace it. So I have to put the dry food in the fruit/vegetable dish which is on the other side of the cage and she will look confused and eventually just eat without the drama. But when I leave the house I remove most of the food, otherwise she will eventually fling it all out. I think they like to see us look confused! The best way I have found is to just put a small amount in the dish several times a day, Sheeba throws it out at a slower rate if there is only a small amount in the dish. If I yell at her to stop the food throwing long enough, she will eventually stop and start shredding her paper roll toy.
