Bringing home a rescue CAG ten years old have to go sign the paper work for her tmrw can't wait hoping everything goes well with Nemo having a new member in our home I know I have to quarantine her for six weeks hopefully in that time they get use to hearing each other nemo has been around another bird but this was years ago any advice on how to introduce them will be great
We introduced Ozzy to Chiku almost 18 months ago and though it wasn't love at first sight they definitely tolerate each other to the point that they call from one room to the other and now seem to carry on their own conversations. When Ozzy's too noisy for Chiku she tells him to "stop it". Pretty funny. We're convinced that Greys are flock birds and they enjoy each other's company. More work to keep up after them but all that much more joy to have them in your home. And I'm a strong believer in rescues. Have so much to give - just may need a little more patience to earn our trust. Well worth it - good for you. I agree with taking it slow and letting him know you're a safe, secure place to be. Congratulations!
Bad news after I sign the paper work give the rescue office the money for the grey the actual owner doesn't want to give up her grey smh after I spent two weeks waiting on this going to visit the grey she decides she doesn't want to release the grey to the rescue agency maybe it just wast for me the grey was barbering its feathers I'm pretty sure it was a nutrition issue cause she only was feeding it pellets and treats no fresh foods at all I told the lady at polly wants a rescue i was upset but more mad that the grey had to be living like that.. The good news is that I get my money back and I found someone who needs to rehome two Grey's not sure if ill be taking both I am thinking bout it cause he has had them for fifteen years and they been together all this time and I know together the transition to a new home would be easier on them their from the same clutch so he houses them in their own cages this is not an easy one here if I take one only there's a big chance one or the other might suffer or both
With all the back and forth I ended up with honey the ten year old CAG that I was pose to get. The owner called me and said I can come get her. Best part of all this I saved $375 cause I had went to the rescue office and got my money back from them already. When I picked honey up couldn't believe the food she had in her foraging wheel two weeks before when I went to see her was the same food there now the food was never even changed i asked what were they feeding her the first time i was there and she went to bring me the food came back and told me they had ran out she had told me that they didn't feed her any fresh fruits or veggies. Just to see what they been feeding her since i last was their i asked if they can give me some food cause I didn't want to switch her diet just like that she gave me a little bag of birdie bred and a bag of nutri-berries looks like this was her diet god knows for how long. She's so light compared to nemo got me thinking he needs on s small diet but shes to light I gave her some Harrison's pellets when we got home cause she said it was what they were giving her. She eats very little and droppings are very small nothing like nemo he eats all day if I let him and his droppings are twice the size of hers. I'm guessing its do to the stress new home new cage she might just need time to settle in they had her for nine years its going to take a lot of work but I'm sure we'll get through this. She will not eat any fruits or veggies so I pick them up with a fork to let her get a taste of it and she'll toss them she'll soon realize it's good for her i remember when nemo wouldn't eat them at one point just carrots now he eats everything. I have to take her to the vet this week hope she's not sick they didnt even take her to a vet I'm sure nemo knows there's another bird in the house can't wait for the quarantine time to be up so I can bring them in the same room together. She does not pluck but she is barbering her feathers no bold bathes as of yet, She doesn't like me gets very nervous when I'm around she likes my girl though and when my three year old daughter speaks she speaks back to her real funny the lady did tell me that she use to argue back and forth with her daughter who is nine years old.
Thanks!!! I just hope honey starts to eat more I'm worried being that nemo eats so much more than her since she got here saturday i been giving her harrison's pellets cause everything they gave me for her to eat is treats tmrw i will give her nutri-berries and see if she eats more that way did some research on the nutri-berries and some people feed it as a complete diet have to call her ex owners and see if this is what they were doing feed this as her complete diet idk
NemoCAG is so much bigger!!! Will cut down on his pellets just a little bit from 30g a day to 25g
Mitzi loves Nutri-Berries. She has quite a few per day but eats other things as well. It says you can either feed them as the main food in which case 10 to 12 a day making 80% of the diet with the rest being fruit, veg and treats. Try giving her fruit and veg when you are eating them as they are usually more keen on them then. Monty is lighter than Mitzi and he doesn't seem to eat nearly as much as she does.
Somewhere in another universe, dear brother, you got saved.
I guess that was her daily diet. i gave the nutri-berries this morning and she ate all of them her droppings are much larger. Thought I just had to get her to start eating fresh veggies and fruits as I see going to have to show her how to eat pellets as well. Going to Make a Bach of Tinkerbell Mash 7 and see if she will eat some cause an all nutri-Berrie diet is an expensive one, Plus with the mash I get so much food i can afford for her to let it go to waist till she gets use to it. Fingers crossed lets see how it goes. I am glad that I do know what she likes now and she's eating more...
She's doing much better today she's eating alot more. Fruits and veggies she just tosses them off the fork. I know she's getting to taste it tho!! She step up today for the first time and she loves to get head scratches, if she does bite she puts no presher on my finger guess we're making some progress she just was nervous, and she stop biting her nails which is a good sign
