To me, he seems awful young to already be weaned. Maybe he was forced weaned too early and still wants to be a baby. I would still hand feed him if he wants that. Atleast until he is a couple weeks older. He might decide to wean himself soon like our grey did.
What kind of scale should I buy. I think with 2 new babies coming about 2 months apart maybe I should be wt-ing them. I have never wt-ed my others but they thus far are good. My grey will be about 12 weeks when she comes home and although the breeder said she is eating on her own well I think she does force feed.
when i brought zeke home, at almost 11 weeks old, he was on one hand feeding a day and was munching freely on veggies and pellets. after about one week of having him home he began to refuse the vast majority of the nightly hand feedings so i quit giving them to him. that was between 3 and 4 weeks ago and he seems to be doing fine. recently (like the last 2 nights) he's acted as if he wants to be hand fed again before bedtime. i'm thinking it's more of a nurturing thing rather then nutrition but last night i went ahead and hand fed him since his crop felt empty and he’s been expressing the want for it again (bobbing the head a lot in the evenings and wanting food from my mouth, not the dish – NOT a habit I want to encourage!). my boyfriend thinks i'm paranoid but i'd rather baby him a little longer then starve him :-)
Within four days of bringing Peanut home she dropped in weight from 260 grms to 243 and I really got worried. The breeder drove 180 mi. to my house--gave her some weaning food with a syringe and she's now holding her own in the weight department. Every so often though--(its getting less and less as the days go by), she will do this beggin chirp. The breeder had left me some weaning food and I'll mix 1/2 tsp in her warm food--and she's fine. Its just as if she needs to have that familiar taste more than she needs to be fed. I do try to give her something warm from a spoon most nights though. It's our special time together and she has a warm full tummy to sleep on.
I just read an article on "birdsnways" about weaning regression--its worth takin a look at !!!
Hi guys ! I got my first ever grey and I call it Amor . I got it when it was 4 weeks old and was being fed cerelac by the breeders due to which I guess it wasn’t properly nourished. Started feeding it nutribird A19 from the day I got it and saw a vast improvement in the growth. I refer to Amor as she even before getting her tested. She is now 8 weeks old and is completely covered by feathers except in the crop region. She has been troubling with her feeds and acting really disinterested in taking them literally making me force feed her so she doesn’t stay hungry. She very keenly picks on her own poo and eats it. Have been noticing this for the past 5-6 days now. Does this mean I introduce her to something semi solid - maybe papaya or watermelon ? Or is it too early ? Thanks in advance.
