Michigan sure has taken it's time warming up, but we finally got the screen tent set up 10x12 (I think) and Harley just loves it.We have a couple swings hooked to the top and a thing we set her "travel" cage on and she just loves copying the birds she hears, we're in the country on 14+ acres, so there's a variety of birds, crows, cardinals, chick-a-dees, barn swallows..purple martins, red winged black birds and more...last year she wanted to do a crow call all the time and that gets annoying in short order!
Trimmed her toenails yesterday, she's slowly getting better about it. She used to get such a death grip on the toe I was trying to trim an it took so much longer to do, I think she's finally realized that it goes much quicker if she kinda holds still and loosens up.
She has a new word she's working on...I think it's oatmeal, because she says it when I give her fruit oatmeal, she loves it most mornings, when she starts to get full she just picks out the fruit, sucks the juice out and then spits out the rest, must be a comon thing among greys.

It's been almost a year since my last entry...my nebulizer treatments 4 times a day cut into "my time"..but I've moved it next to the computer so I can do both. Harley Rose learned to say Apple, so instead of saying "want some", everything is "apple". and now everytime we go out the door in a frantic high pitched voice she quickly calls "'Chew Cheeewwww" before we shut the door. She must think it's a word meaning come here or come back. We call our dog Chaquita" chewy or "chew, chew" so naturally we call outside for her... Chew Chew ....and Harley seen how that works. It's comical. We tell her to sing a song and she bobs her head and starts whistling "Oh McDonald" When she wants to go with "poppa" she says "Harley bye bye poppa"..she came up with that all by herself. She loves to go on rides with us and chats all the while

Everything is poppa...Harley Rose is my bird..poppa claims he's not a bird person...couldn't prove it by me. Poppa goes out the door and it's a frantic "POPPAAA, POPPAAA!!....The last thing she says at night "poppa"...first thing in the morning "poppa"...naptime "poppa" She calls me chew chew..same as the dog.(Chewy..Chiquita)
All her clipped wing feathers have regrown, now she flys back and forth from the kitchen to the front room and screeches as she goes over head and I screech back..all in fun..I tell her I'm a monster and aghhhhhh...
She's been pretty bitey,,hopefully I won't have to trim her wings..she looks so pretty with her full feathers.

Now Harley Rose says" I got to go get the mail." It would be nice if she did half the things she says she has to do..check the fire, get the mail, go to town,....she used to say that phrase before and I forgot all about it until she started saying it again. The two or three sentences she's been repeatedly saying , I still haven't been able to recognize any of it...

Boy Harley's on a roll...We have wood heat so Harley's new phrase is " I gotta go check the fire, you wanna come with me', A couple days ago it was " Brrrrr it's cold" That was how she first started talking.. for the longest time she said nothing, then it was like one day the flood gates opened and everything she heard she started to say...here we go again!!

Harley Rose seems to be in a learning phase ....brrrrr it's cold..... is this weeks new word(s) Being it was 17 degrees below zero I must have said it myself more than I realized. She also says "it's Very cold, brrrr" She seems to be more comfortable when company comes and just carries on with her business , whether it's talking or nothing, I'M glad to see it. boy she just loves the shower...I have her shower perch stuck just to the right and down 6 inches from the nozzle and she goes down the shower curtain stretches over to her perch and twirls around under the water, then back up on the shower bar, then back down to the perch, twirls her back to the water and round she goes until I shut the water off. She Loves it !!

Harley's newest is" water" "Wanna drink of water"... she has also associated an orange with drink , she just sucks the juice out and drops the rest.... she'll say "want some " when I'm eating an orange and then she'll say drink... I think that was pretty smart of her to connect the two.

Harley seems to be using new words once again...I was coming up the basement stairs after throwing wood into the wood furnace, I heard my husband say something. I asked if he said something to me and he said "no, he was talking to the bird". Plain as day Harley Rose said " Talking to the bird" She now also says Papa and happy. As always she's testing her sounds..she's learned to "click" her beak. Day or night she doesn't miss a beat when it comes to letting the dog in or out..2am from under her cage cover "come on chew-chew"...reminds me of "The Waltons".

Peepers is our female cockatiel and Harley's learned to say "Peepers" and every chance she gets she'll fly and land on Peepers cage . Harley does Peepers different noises and Peepers makes the same noise back at Harley. I've never let them get within striking distance , I'm afraid Harley would take a leg off of Peepers or worse. Harley does have a jealous bone or two...
When one of our young cats gets into Harley's cupboard space (Molly), Harley says "go on, go on, git down, go on, git down and then she pecks at her until she gets down..poor Molly she trys to snuggle ( with the dog too) and all she gets is rejected!!

Finally another new word...."town" ... "I gotta go bye, bye, I gotta go to town, wanna come with me?" Harley Rose is such a card...she has about three different sounding voices that she does..she has such a sense of humor. She's been finding her way into the cherry tomatoes. They're ripening in the garden now, so at any given time I have at the very least a bucket of them sitting on the counter. I have a lot of green ones, because they fall off the plant so easy , she seems to go for the green ones time and again so she must like the taste.She just sucks the juice out, same with the red ones, she doesn't eat the meat.She LOVES the squash..I guess it's called delicata or sweet potato squash....it's VERY very good and why it was growing with my other squash I don't know, but I have a bushel and a half of them and like it better than the kind I planted
